Affirmations to enhance your life – What and How
The human body and mind, undoubtedly, is quite
enigmatic. There have been tremendous advancements in the last few centuries in
medical science. But the complexity of body and working of the mind has been eluding
the doctors. Neurologists are continuing to perform studies & research in
order to gain a thorough understanding of the nature of these complex entities.
Psychologists have been looking at the
different mental states and trying to identify if there can be any conclusions
made based on their observation. There is more focus on human mind and how it
behaves within a given environment.
The medical community, by and large agrees
to the concept of human mind being split into two – conscious and subconscious.
In the recent past, with many doctors vouching for hidden powers of
subconscious mind, research on this area is gathering sufficient attention.
It
is rather intriguing to know particularly the nature of subconscious mind and
its latent powers. Affirmations is one of them.
Affirmations are nothing but statements in
your familiar language said repeatedly with supreme confidence.
There have been
numerous real-life situations recorded wherein people have got the benefit of
this tool.
The mechanism of affirmation is coupled with
that of subconscious mind. It is said that the subconscious mind doesn’t know
what is wrong and what is right. It does not care about what is real and what
is dream.
It just accepts what is being told as reality. So, affirmation helps
in programming the subconscious mind to make it believe the uttered words.
Affirmations can be simple sentences. Click here to get a glimpse of a few affirmations that you can start using in your daily life. As you apply it into practice, you can observe that the affirmations will only
work if subconscious fully accepts what is being impressed upon it. And as
noted earlier, it doesn’t know to differentiate – good or bad, right or wrong,
beneficial or harmful.
So, we need to be extremely careful while framing the
affirmation. We must be sure that there are no conflicts within the
affirmations that we use as well as they create a positive effect into our
surroundings.
The infographic here provides an overview of
how you can create your own affirmations that will work for you.
To get best results, speak out the statement(s) aloud a few
times each day. Also start visualizing the affirmation from the bottom of your
heart.
Monitor the changes that happen in your life
after you start religiously practicing the affirmations. If you sense there is
less or, worse, negative impact then relook at your affirmation.
You may have
to refer to a dictionary and replace the words that you have used in the
current statement. Bring in the positive vibes, work on the tense, reword the
sentence and apply it again. With dedication, you will be able to master this
wonderful tool to enrich your life.
What are the affirmations
that you find useful? What are your observations about creating good &
working affirmations?
Welcoming another new year
As we
step into another new year, there is a lot of stuff going on in the back of our
minds. Of these, some are conscious enough to get converted into resolutions
and some others quite abstract, thus remain hidden beneath the pile of
thoughts.
At a time when we look back at the happenings of an entire year gone
by and introspect, it is important for us to think of the year ahead.
During this exercise, we realize
that while one cycle has culminated, another one has begun its journey.
Inevitably, being part of these, there is an urge from within all of us to
break out from such a routine and be free forever.
Is it possible to gain this
freedom? The answer lies within ourselves.
It
depends on the intensity of desire to destroy the shackles of such bondage. The
more will one puts into this effort, the more success the person would taste.
The
accompanying pain one endures might eat away the current lifestyle but prepares
the same person for a better livelihood in due course of time.
This is the
reason why Benjamin Franklin aptly commented -
Be at war with your vices, at peace with your neighbors, and let every new year find you a better man.
Let us
strive to become better in the new year.
Clutch of Habits
As we grow, we pick up
some actions and repeat them regularly on a daily basis until it becomes second
nature to us. Over a period of time, these actions become so very powerful that
it would be next to impossible for us to detach ourselves from them.
These
actions are known as habits. With this premise, it is not a surprise that most
of us are enslaved by our own habits.
Thus it is important to cultivate only
the good ones and keep distance from the bad ones.
It does not take much
time to appreciate that if we have to change the way we live, we need to change
our habits. And it is quite a struggle to modify something that we have been
doing over the years.
Often we end up not trying at all just by imagining our
life without actions that we hold dear to ourselves. However as the old saying
goes, “Where there is a will there is a way”.
If we focus our mind with
dedication towards changing our life for good, it is possible but it requires
efforts.
First step is to become
conscious about our bad habits. Next step would be to convert it into a good
one.
Now it would seem to be very difficult to totally eliminate it altogether.
In such cases at least masking the wrong actions consciously with right actions
initially would help.
Gradually the latter will replace the former. Some claim that if an activity is done regularly consistently for 21 days, it becomes a habit. However this is not quite the reality and cannot be generalized.
Changing a habit is not so easy task. But
acknowledging the power of habits on our life, a just decision would have to
trigger the process of changing the bad habits and imbibe good ones.
So if one
wills to change with concentrated and focused efforts, it can surely be done. You ready?
Rendezvous with destiny
Destiny
is explained in the dictionary as something that is to happen to a particular
person or predetermined, usually inevitable course of events. It is also known
as fate which is the force or agency that predetermines the fortune befalling a
person.
As the events are apparently inevitable, nobody has the power to manipulate these events. Now the obvious question would arise in a person’s rational mind: Who is behind the destiny and is there a basis for deciding on the seemingly fixed events in one’s life?
As the events are apparently inevitable, nobody has the power to manipulate these events. Now the obvious question would arise in a person’s rational mind: Who is behind the destiny and is there a basis for deciding on the seemingly fixed events in one’s life?
Action vs Destiny
Numerous theories exist. Lots of pages have been written on this topic in an attempt to explain this reasonably. While going through so much of information, I encountered another question. “Is everything predetermined or only some events are destined?”Pondering over this question, my brain’s logical faculty responded in the negative. Right now, right here I could perform an action, which if it is predetermined, will have no meaning on my action. Rather I cannot even call it my action.
It is someone else’s action. And who could be this someone interested in nothing but slavery controlling everyone’s actions? It doesn’t make sense.
Free Will
It is then I discovered the concept of free will. This free will is something that I can exercise to perform a deed. Nobody else but I have the control over it. The adage “Where there is a will there is a way” is so true. It need not be always in the form of a physical action; thinking can also be a form of free will. And we know actions in abstract form are thoughts. Now let us return to the original question. If free will is in my control why would some events be predetermined & who is responsible for this decision?
Conscience
In my opinion, it is only fair & logical to relate our own self as the answer to this question. The particular individual who has the ability of exercising free will is the one who is also responsible for creating the destiny. Sounds absurd? At the outset, possibly yes. To explain this let us now focus on the term conscience.
It is defined as a person’s moral sense of right and wrong. It would act as a guide to one’s behavior. The universe we live in is a closed loop system.
When the free will exercised by an individual is in synchronization with the conscientiously right part, the feedback will positively boost the will. But when the free will is in opposition with the right part of conscience, a negative feedback will ensue.
Let us take an analogy of a huntsman. With his limited application of free will, he hunts animals for his livelihood which results in positive feedback. However if he kills human beings or kills animals just for amusement when he intrinsically knows that it is not righteous, then he will receive negative feedback.
Let us stop blaming fate or destiny when things go
wrong. We should not forget that we are creators of our destiny. The reins of
life are in our control and let us resolve to guide ourselves in the righteous
path.
